Mahindra had launched the rear-wheel-drive version of the Thar lifestyle SUV in the country in January 2023. This model was launched in 3 variants – AX Diesel, LX Diesel and LX petrol – priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and 13.49 lakh. These prices were introductory and applicable only for the first 10,000 customers.
Mahindra has now increased the prices of the LX diesel manual variant by Rs 50,000. This variant now costs Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It was originally launched at a price tag of Rs 10.99 lakh. The prices of the base diesel AX (O) and LX petrol AT remain the same. This model is only available in hardtop configuration.

The Mahindra Thar RWD version is available in two new colours – Everest White and Blazing Bronze. Compared to the 4×4 version, the Thar RWD costs around Rs 4 lakh less.
The Mahindra Thar RWD version is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine instead of the 2.2L engine in the 4X4 version. The lower capacity diesel engine allows the Thar RWD to avail GST benefits on the sub-4 meter vehicles. Paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 1500cc diesel unit produces 117bhp of power and 300Nm of torque.
The turbo petrol RWD variant comes with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox only. The 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 150PS and 320Nm of torque. In terms of features, the Thar RWD gets powered ORVMs, a touchscreen infotainment unit, cruise control, electronic stability program, 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres.
