Kia EV9 Electric SUV Global Debut In Coming Weeks – Key Details

Kia’s flagship electric SUV – EV9 – is ready to make its global debut in mid March 2023. The model will be first launched in the UK, where it will take directly on the Range Rover. Just so you know, the carmaker showcased its close-to-production version at this year’s Delhi Auto Expo. However, there is no official word on its India launch plan. In the company’s global product lineup, the new Kia EV9 will sit above the EV6 compact crossover.

Official details of the new Kia electric SUV are still under the wraps. The spy images reveal that the final production version will stay true to its concept that features the brand’s signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, a Z-shaped headlamp cluster and a blanked-out panel with LED light modules at the front end. It has upright stance along with the pronounced wheel arches, a sharp kink behind the C-pillar, alloy wheels, roof rails and black ORVMs. At the back, the concept has vertically positioned LED taillamps, a rear spoiler, a large glasshouse and a prominent rear bumper.

The new Kia EV9 electric SUV will underpin the e-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) architecture, which is also used on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. It’s a dedicated electric modular platform that supports multiple body types and battery capacities along with the fast-charging capabilities of up 350kW. The company says that the e-GMP is based on four fundamentals – modularity, performance, reliability and usability. It’s claimed to provided enhanced driving dynamics, improved cornering performance and high speed stability.

The overall length, width and height of the new Kia EV9 stand at 4929mm, 2055mm and 1790mm respectively. It has a wheelbase of 3,100mm. The production-ready model might feature a 64kWh battery pack that can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in just 7 minutes. It’s expected to be offered with a dual motor setup and 4WD (four-wheel drive) drivetrain system. The lower trims might come with a single motor transferring power to the rear axle.
