Mahindra Thar – India’s Safest Off-Roader With 4 Star Crash Test Rating

The new Mahindra Thar has become India’s safest off-roader, as it secured 4 star rating for both adult and child occupants in Global NCAP’s crash tests. The new Thar was tested in its basic safety specifications, two airbags. It also meets the side impact UN 95 regulation.

Global NCAP also tested Thar’s ESC (Electronic Stability Control) according to UN regulation. ESC is not offered as standard on the Thar. While the model met minimum regulatory requirements, it shows an unstable dynamic behaviour.

The front offset test is conducted at regulated speed of 64kmph. The new Thar scored 12.52 points from a total of 17 in adult safety. For Child safety, the off-roader secured 41.11 points from 49.

The test reports that the new Mahindra Thar offers good protection to driver and passenger’s head and neck during a collision. Driver’s chest offered adequate protection and passenger chest showed good protection. According to the Global NCAP crash test report, the structure of the new Mahindra thar was found stable; however, the footwell area was rated as unstable, not being capable of withstanding further loadings.

The adult knee areas were optimized to reduce significant injuries. Both child occupants received almost full protection during the test. The new Thar comes with ISOFIX anchorages and top tether together with 3 point belts for all seating positions as standard

Child Protection

– The child seat for the 3 year old was installed FWF with ISOFIX anchorages and top tether. This arrangement was able to prevent excesssive forward movement of the head during the impact below the 550mm lit.

– The 18 month old CRS was fixed with the ISOFIX base, which offers full protection to the child occupant.
