The new generation Mahindra Thar 2020 is likely to be launched in August; to get factory-fitted hard-top version.

The long-awaited new generation Mahindra Thar is reportedly to be launched in August 2020. The company is yet to make an official statement on the same; however, Team-BHP reports that Mahindra dealers are now started taking pre-bookings for the new Thar.

The new version of the lifestyle SUV was earlier planned to be launched in April 2020; however, launch has been delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Work at Mahindra dealerships and production facilities have also been started. In fact, testing of the next generation Mahindra Thar has also been started.

New Thar Spied

Going by the images available on the Internet, it is visible that the new Mahindra Thar will grow in size and will offer more space inside the cabin. The new model will be designed and developed on the new ZEN3 platform (ladder frame construction) that also underpins the current Scorpio and the TUV300.

The new generation Mahindra Thar will be offered with 2 engine options – a new 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel and a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol. While the former is expected to offer around 138bhp of power and over 350Nm of torque, the gasoline engine produces 190bhp and 380Nm of torque. The SUV will initially to be offered in manual version only, while the automatic gearbox option will come at a later stage. Instead of the 2.0L unit, the new Thar could feature the new 1.5-litre mStallion petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 163bhp and a peak torque of 280Nm.

The new Mahindra Thar will also receive factory-fitted hardtop version at the time of the launch. In terms of styling upgrades, the SUV will get new 18-inch alloys, new and more prominent Mahindra grille, new headlamps with LED DRLs and squared-off wheel arches. The cabin will also receive all-new dashboard design, a touchscreen infotainment system, new instrument console, manual AC, power folding ORVMs, front-facing second row of seats, etc. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, rear parking sensors, speed alert and seatbelt reminder will come as standard.
