Toyota Urban Cruiser To Launch Before Diwali 2020

Likely to be launched during August-October 2020, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will be 2nd model under Toyota-Suzuki Partnership.

Japanese automaker, Toyota will introduce the second product under the new Toyota-Suzuki joint venture in India. Called the Toyota Urban Cruiser, the new model will be a compact SUV based on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara. In fact, Maruti Suzuki has announced to officially start delivering the Brezza to Toyota.

The new Toyota Urban Cruiser compact SUV will be launched during the festive season (August-October 2020), before Diwali. Unlike Glanza (re-badged Baleno), the upcoming Urban Cruiser will receive significant design changes to keep things fresh in the market. Toyota will change soft body parts and grille design to give it a family look.

Toyota won’t make any changes to the sheet metal. In fact, headlamp and tail-lamp units will also remain the same as these parts will be costlier to change. However, the lighting system could use different graphics. The SUV is also expected to share the alloy wheels with the Maruti’s Brezza. The cabin of the Urban Cruiser won’t receive major changes and most of the design and equipment will be shared with the existing Brezza. However, the SUV is likely to receive new brighter colour schemes and different graphics.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be powered by the single 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that also powers the Brezza. This engine is capable of producing 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. Only the automatic model has the mild-hybrid system. However, things will be different for the Toyota Urban Cruiser. The manual version of the Urban Cruiser is also likely to feature the SHVS mild hybrid system.

Toyota will also launch the facelift version of the Fortuner SUV before the end of this year, most probably around Diwali. The new model is rumoured to receive a more powerful 2.8L turbo-diesel engine with power and torque output rated at 204bhp and 500Nm respectively. The SUV will also receive a new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
