Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup Design Patent Leaked; Reveals Details

On the 15th of August 2023, Mahindra & Mahindra unveiled the Scorpio N-based pickup concept during its annual Independence Day celebration in South Africa. This strategic move signals the carmaker’s intention to expand its presence in a region where pickups, often referred to as bakkies, hold immense popularity among buyers. While the pickup is slated to make its way to the Indian market as well, the official launch timeline remains undisclosed. At present, the company has filed a patent application for the model, and we have had the opportunity to access its design patent image, revealing that the Mahindra Scorpio N pickup is poised to retain the essence of its concept, which was originally crafted at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS).

Upon closer inspection of the front end, the pickup features a freshly designed all-black grille, new headlamps equipped with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), a metallic bash plate, and a prominent bumper. The roof rack, complete with a wide LED light bar, door cladding, and a double cab design with a load bed, closely resembles the concept version.

Observant eyes will also spot dual tow hooks at the front and rear, in addition to newly designed alloy wheels. The wheelbase of the Mahindra Scorpio N pickup will be extended to accommodate a spacious load area, and its ground clearance will surpass that of the Scorpio N SUV. At the rear, the final version is expected to feature ‘Mahindra’ badging on the tailgate and taillamps with a pixel-like design, akin to what we witnessed in the concept. Moving to the interior, the Scorpio N pickup is equipped with a sunroof, 5G-based connectivity features, and a Level 2 autonomous driving system with semi-automatic parking. The electronic stability program (ESP) offers a Trailer Sway Mitigation feature, which detects swaying in a towed trailer and employs ESP interventions involving brake and throttle control to counteract it.

Mahindra has already confirmed that the Mahindra Scorpio N pickup will be powered by the Green-II all-aluminum mHawk diesel engine. Buyers will have two gearbox options: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic sourced from Aisin. The pickup will feature 4WD capability and shift-on-the-fly functionality. It will offer four distinct drive modes, namely Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut, and Sand.
