Mahindra Registers Scorpio Sting Name; Could Be New-Gen Model

Homegrown UV maker, Mahindra & Mahindra is readying the next-generations of the XUV500 and the Scorpio SUVs. In fact, these models have been spotted multiple times on the Indian roads. The new-gen Scorpio is scheduled to be launched in the mid-2021. A new media report claims that Maindra has registered a new name with the intellectual property authorities in India.

The new name has been registered in 4 different formats – the Scorpio Sting, the Sting, Sting and Scorpio Sting. It is expected that the name Scorpio Sting will be the name of the new gen 2021 Scorpio. Previous media reports claim that Mahindra is likely to sell the current Scorpio alongside the new-gen model.

Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio

The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will receive significant design changes and new interior along with new set of engines. It will be powered by a new BS6 compliant 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which will also power the XUV500. It is expected to produce close to 160bhp and 350Nm of torque. It will come with a new 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 4WD system as optional.

The new Scorpio will also receive a petrol version, which will be powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged engine. This engine is capable of producing 190bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The SUV will be based on the modified version of the body-on-ladder frame (ZEN3 platform), which will also underpin the new Thar. It will grow in size and will offer front-facing third-row of seats. The new Mahindra Scorpio will be benefitted with high-end comfort and convenience features such as new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, electric sunroof, leather seats and head-up display.
