Mahindra Plans New EV Brand Under Pininfarina; No To Sedans, Hatch, Mini SUVs

A new media report claims that Mahindra & Mahindra has decided not to make sedans, hatchbacks and small SUVs for the Indian market. Adding to it, the company is planning to introduce an all-new brand for premium electric SUVs under its Italian subsidiary Pininfarina.

Mahindra & Mahindra MD & CEO Anish Shah said that the new EV sub-brand will introduce premium electric SUVs, which could be priced up to Rs 40 lakh. Mahindra believes that the electrics would be the biggest focus area, which would see an initial investment of over Rs 3,000 crore.

Adding to it, Mahindra will focus on selling “true blue, larger SUVs”, which are core to its heritage and legacy. Anish Shah further said that Mahindra’s SUV range will revolve around Bolero, XUV300, Scorpio, Thar and the XUV500. The SUVs above XUV500 will be EVs and are likely to be introduced under Pininfarina.

Pininfarina is all set to launch a super-luxury electric car – the Batista, which will be priced at 2 million Euros. Only 125 examples of the Pininfarina Batista will be produced; however, the technology used in this super-luxury car will help the brand’s EV business.

Mahindra will introduce the new generations of the Scorpio and the XUV500 in the 6-9 months. The company is also preparing the TUV300 facelift, which is rumoured to be re-branded as the new Bolero Neo. It will be sold alongside the regular Bolero SUV. The company is also working on a new mid-sized SUV, which will be an urban SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
