Made-in-India Volkswagen Virtus 5 Star Rating In Latin NCAP

The Made-in-India Volkswagen Virtus has achieved a 5-star rating under the Latin NCAP (New Car Assessment Programs) test protocol. The model received a 5-star rating, scoring 36.94 points (92%) in the adult occupant protection test including from frontal and side impact crash tests. It also performed very well in the child occupant protection test, scoring 36.94 points (92.35%). The Virtus provided good protection for the driver and passenger head and neck, while the driver’s chest protection rated as adequate.

Testers rated the sedan’s footwell arear and bodyshell (withstanding further loadings) as stable. In the side impact test, the Volkswagen Virtus offered ‘good’ protection to the head, abdomen and pelvis and ‘adequate’ to the chest. The chest protection was rated as marginal in the side pole impact. It prevented head exposure and provided good protection for the three-year old dummy.

The Volkswagen Virtus scored 25.48 points (53.09%) in pedestrian protection and 36.54 points (84.98%) in safety assist. The tested model was equipped the electronic stability control (ESC), seatbelt reminders in all seating positions and speed assist system.

In India, the Volkswagen Virtus comes in two engine options – a 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder TSI petrol. While the former makes a peak power of 115bhp and 178Nm of torque, the latter offers 150bhp and 250Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (only for the 1.5L petrol variants). The same engine-gearbox combinations are offered on the Skoda Slavia. Though, the Slavia 1.5L TSI can also be had with a manual gearbox.

At present, the VW Virtus is available in 6 variants spread across four trims – Comforline, Highline, Topline and GT Plus. Its prices start from Rs 11.32 lakh and go up to Rs 18.42 lakh. The model lineup has three automatic variants – Highline AT, Topline AT and GT Plus – priced at Rs 14.48 lakh, Rs 16 lakh and Rs 18.42 lakh respectively. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.
