The small car market in India, although experiencing a decline, is set to witness a surge with the impending launch of seven new models catering to the demand for affordable yet feature-packed vehicles. With a budget cap of Rs 10 lakh, prospective buyers can anticipate a range of options, each offering distinct features to meet the needs of small families.
New-Gen Maruti Swift/Dzire
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to unveil the new-generation Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan in early 2024. Both models will undergo noticeable cosmetic enhancements and feature upgrades, including the introduction of the new Z-Series petrol engine. The upcoming Swift and Dzire will boast a new 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z12E engine, promising increased power and fuel efficiency. Rumors suggest that lower trims of the Swift may retain the existing 1.2L, 4-cylinder Dualjet petrol unit.
Kia Sonet Facelift
Scheduled for an early 2024 launch, the Kia Sonet facelift promises improved design elements, such as updated front grille inserts, tweaked front bumper, new headlamps with LED DRLs, and enhancements to the cabin. The 2024 Kia Sonet will maintain its existing engine lineup, featuring the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol, and 1.5L turbo diesel engines.
Mahindra XUV300 Facelift
The Mahindra XUV300 is set to undergo a mid-life update in early 2024, featuring design inspirations from the XUV700. Noteworthy updates include the adoption of a new 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, replacing the current 6-speed AMT gearbox. The new XUV300 will also introduce a panoramic sunroof, an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, and various new features while retaining the 1.2L turbo petrol, 1.2L DI turbo petrol, and 1.5L diesel engines.
Tata Punch.ev
The Tata Punch.ev is slated for launch in the coming months, utilizing a powertrain likely shared with the Tiago.ev or Nexon.ev. This electric micro SUV is expected to offer a range of 200km-300km on a full charge and will be available in two trims – Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR). Notable features include an electronic parking brake, a circular display integrated gear selector dial, and rear disc brakes, with distinct styling differentiating it from its ICE counterpart.
Toyota Taisor
Toyota Kirloskar Motor plans to introduce the Toyota Taisor, a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, in the coming months. Minimal changes in design will set the Taisor apart, featuring Toyota’s signature grille, revised front and rear bumpers, newly-designed alloy wheels, and unique inserts and seat upholstery. The engine setup remains unchanged, with the new Toyota small SUV featuring the 1.2L NA and 1.0L boosterjet petrol engines.
Tata Altroz Racer Edition
Tata Motors is set to launch the Altroz Racer Edition in early 2024, featuring a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine generating 120bhp and 170Nm. Equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Racer Edition boasts sporty graphics, all-black upholstery with contrasting red stitching, and red and white stripes with ‘Racer’ embossing on the head restraints.
