Kia Sonet, Seltos Diesel Gets iMT; No Manual Gearbox

The Korean automaker, Kia has updated the engine-gearbox options of the Sonet and Seltos SUVs in the country. The powertrains are updated to meet the upcoming BS Phase II or Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms. Moreover, the engines are now compatible with E20 fuel. The prices of the Kia Seltos and the Sonet have also been increased.

The Sonet sub-4 meter SUV is available with 3 engine options – a 83PS, 1.2L NA petrol, a 120PS, 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel. The diesel powertrain was earlier offered in two states of tune – 100PS and 115PS. Now, the oil burner is offered in a single state of tune – 116PS and 242Nm. The powertrain is now available with a six-speed iMT and a six-speed torque convertor automatic. The company has discontinued the manual gearbox option with the diesel iteration. 

Not just the diesel engine, the Sonet with 1.0L turbo is now available with iMT & a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The manual gearbox option is only available with the entry-level Sonet powered by a 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine. 

The Kia Sonet diesel version received a uniform price hike of Rs 50,000. Most of the petrol variants receive a uniform price hike of 25,000. The Sonet HTX 1.0 DCT is now pricier by Rs 19,000, while the entry-level HTE 1.2 MT is now costlier by Rs 10,000. The Kia Sonet is now available in the price bracket of Rs 7.79 lakh to Rs 13.89 lakh.

Kia has removed the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine from the Seltos line-up. The SUV is currently available with two engine options – a 115PS, 1.5L NA petrol and a 116PS, 1.5L turbo diesel.  The diesel version is now available with 6-speed iMT and 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox option. No manual gearbox option is available with the diesel Seltos. On the other hand, the Seltos petrol is available with 6-speed manual and an iVT or CVT. 

The Kia Seltos HTE MT variant is now pricier by Rs 20,000, while rest of the petrol variants receive a uniform price hike of Rs 25,000. The diesel version of the Seltos is now costlier by Rs 50,000. The SUV is now available in the price bracket of Rs 10.89 lakh to Rs 19.65 lakh.
