Kia Seltos, Carens To Get New 1.5L Turbo-Petrol Engine In 2023?

The Kia Seltos SUV and Carens MPV are the major volume generators for the South Korean automaker in the country. Both models are currently available with the 115bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 140bhp, 1.4L turbo petrol and 115bhp, 1.5L diesel engine options. According to a fresh media report, the company will soon discontinue the 1.4L turbocharged petrol motor and replace it with a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. The reason behind this decision is said to be the upcoming Phase II BS6 emission norms that will be enforced from April, 2023.

Kia’s 1.4L turbo petrol engine will not be ready to meet the new emission standards. Therefore, the company is working on a new 1.5L turbo petrol unit that will generate more power and torque than its replacement. It’s reported to make a top power of 158bhp (160PS) and 260Nm of torque. Both manual (6-speed) and DCT (7-speed) gearboxes will be on offer. The Seltos and Carens model lineup will continue to come with the existing 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options.

Kia Carens Styling

Just so you know, the South Korean automaker revealed the 2023 Kia Seltos facelift at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Speculations are on rife that the company might showcase the SUV’s updated model at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo in January. Significant changes have been inside and out. The new Seltos comes with the segment-first panoramic screen display – a 10.25-inch center display and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster. There is a new 4.2-inch instrument cluster with digital gauge upgrade and new dash trim. The SUV also gets ventilated front seats, 4 USB ports, Kia Connect connected car tech, Digital Key 2 Touch and many more goodies.

On the exterior, the new 2023 Kia Seltos facelift features a larger tiger nose grille, full projection LED headlamps, revised front bumper with integrated vertical shaped fog lamps and slightly updated rear section.
