Kia Carens, the newly-launched 6/7-seater family car from the South Korean automaker, has been made available within the price range of Rs 8.99 lakh – Rs 16.99 lakh (all, ex-showroom). With such aggressive pricing, the model takes on multiple cars right from the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo to Hyundai Alcazar. The three-row Carens comes in 5 trim levels – Premium, Prestige, Prestige +, Luxury and Luxury + – and three engines (1.5L petrol, 1.4L petrol and 1.5L diesel) and three gearbox options (6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter automatic and 7-speed DCT automatic).
While the 1.5L petrol motor is available only on the Premium and Prestige trims, the turbo petrol and diesel units are offered across all variants. The turbo-petrol DCT is available in the mid-spec Prestige + and Luxury trims, and the diesel automatic combination is offered only on the range-topping Luxury + trim. Kia claims that Carens petrol offers a mileage of 16.5kmpl and diesel promises 21.5kmpl.
