Kia Carens Launch Price Is Rs 8.99 Lakh; Explained In 8 Points

The long-awaited Kia Carens 3-row MPV has finally been launched in the Indian market. Dubbed as the “Recreational Vehicle”, the new MPV is priced between Rs 8.99 lakh and Rs 16.99 lakh. Interested buyers can book the new Carens online or at authorised Kia dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000. The MPV has already crossed 19000 bookings in less than 1 month.

The Carens 3-row MPV is available in 8 colour options – Imperial Blue, Moss Brown, Sparkling Silver, Intense Red, Glacier White Pearl, Clear White, Gravity Grey & Aurora Black Pearl.

4. Engine Specifications

Kia Carens Exterior Review

The Kia Carens is offered in 3 engine options – a 1.5-litre NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo-diesel and a 1.4L turbocharged petrol. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine is good for 113bhp and 144Nm of torque, while the turbo-diesel engine produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. The turbo-charged petrol engine is capable of producing 138bhp and 242Nm of torque.

A 6-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. Other transmission options include a 7-speed DCT with 1.4L turbo petrol and a 6-speed torque convertor with 1.5L diesel. The automatic variants also comes with multi drive modes – Normal, Eco & Sport along with paddle shifters.

The petrol version is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 16.5kmpl, while the diesel return 21.3kmpl.

5. Safety Features

The new Carens comes equipped with segment-leading safety and security features. As standard safety features, the new MPV offers 6 airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), BAS, HAC, DBC (Downhill Brake Control), all wheel disc brakes, TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), rear parking sensors & ABS. The higher variants also get front parking sensors.

6. Dimensions

In terms of proportions, the new Kia Carens MPV is 4,540mm long, 1800mm wide and 1700mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,780mm. It is 40mm longer, 10mm wider and 25mm taller than the Alcazar and have 20mm longer wheelbase. In fact, the Carens have 30mm longer wheelbase than the Toyota Innova Crysta. It has a ground clearance of 195mm, while the fuel tank capacity stands at 45-litres.

7. Competition

In terms of size, the new Carens is sweatly placed between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta. The MPV directly rivals the Mahindra Marazzo, higher variants of the Suzuki XL6 and the entry-level variants of the Toyota Innova. Adding to it, the MPV could also impact the sales of 7-seater SUVs including the Safari, Hector Plus, XUV700 and the Alcazar.
