Kia Carens is one of the top-selling cars from the South Korean automaker in the country. In the month of January 2023, the MPV registered its highest ever monthly sales of 7,900 units. Its sales dropped in February that stood at 6,248 units. Though, the sales gap between the Carens and its arch rival – Maruti Suzuki Ertiga – narrowed down to just 224 units. Currently, the Kia Carens has a waiting period of up to 12 weeks. The MPV model lineup comes with three engine options – a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.4L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel. While the naturally aspirated gasoline unit makes power worth 115bhp, the turbo-petrol motor makes 140bhp. The oil burner delivers a claimed power of 115bhp. All three engines can be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Kia Carens is also available with the 7-speed DCT automatic and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options.
The Carens petrol delivers a claimed mileage of 16.5kmpl and its diesel version offers 21.5kmpl. Some of its key features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the smartphone connectivity, wireless phone charger, a digital instrument cluster, one-touch tumble function for the middle row, ambient lighting, 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle stability management, hill assist control, electronic stability control, ABS and more.
The Maruti Ertiga, which received an update earlier this year, is available with a 1.5L Dualjet engine benefited with the start-stop technology. It makes a maximum power of 103bhp and 136.8Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddleshifters. The updated Ertiga manual and automatic versions return a mileage of 20.51kmpl and 20.30kmpl respectively.
