Kia Aims For 4-Star Safety Rating For the Upcoming Carens

The South Korean automaker is ready to expand its Indian product portfolio with the all-new Kia Carens. It’s a 6/7-seater family car, which is touted as a “Recreational Vehicle”. Prices of the new Kia MPV are slated to be announced in February and its deliveries might start in early March 2022. For the safety provision, the Carens offers hill start assist, downhill brake control, six airbags, traction control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), disc brakes at all four ends and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard fitments. It also comes equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system, Isofix child seat anchorages and rear parking sensors. The model has been built using lots of high strength steel.

The upcoming Kia Carens is the first vehicle in its segment to offer electrically powered, one-touch tumble down feature for the second row. It enables occupants to access the third row seats by pushing an electronic button. The higher trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Kia’s UVO Connect.

The MPV has also been equipped with an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a multi function steering wheel with mounted audio controls and voice commands, a 64-colour ambient lighting, roof mounted AC vents, seat-back tables with cup holders, ventilated front seats and an air purifier.

Kia Carens comes with the same set of engines offered on the Seltos. There is a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol (155bhp, 144Nm), a 1.4L turbo petrol (140bhp/242Nm) and a 1.5L diesel (115bhp/250Nm) unit. All motors can be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the turbo-petrol unit is exclusively available with a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission, the oil burner also gets a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
