Ferrari, the ultra-luxury sportscar manufacturer, is all set to introduce its first-ever SUV this year. In its financial report for 2021, the company has revealed that the Ferrari Purosangue SUV will enter into production in 2022. The model will be first launched in the home market sometime next year. The new Ferrari SUV, which is currently in its testing phase, was recently caught on camera near the brand’s Maranello facility. The test mule was covered in a thick layer of dirt covering the Maserati Levante camouflage panels.
The Ferrari Purosangue SUV’s prototype seems to carry the front grille and headlamps similar to the Levante. Its underpinnings, however, will be sourced from the Roma GT. Don’t expect it to offer off-roading performance similar to the Land Rover Defender. Though, the new Ferrai SUV will be more powerful than the Levante. Just so you know, the top-end Maserati Levante Trofeo comes with a 3.8L twin-turbo V8 engine that’s good enough for 590bhp and 538 lb-ft.
Reports suggest that the Purosangue SUV will be packed with an 800bhp 6.5L V12 naturally aspirated engine. It’s likely to come with the AWD (all-wheel drive) system. The automaker might also use the F8 Tributo’s twin-turbo V6 or V8 powertrains. These motors could be benefited with the battery-electric motor or plug-in hybrid system.
The new Ferrari SUV V8 hybrid variant will share components with the SF90 supercar. Though, the hybrid version will arrive later. Furthermore, the company has planned two fully electric variants of the Ferrari Purosangue.
The Italian sportscar manufacturer, Ferrari is a little late to enter into the high performance SUV segment. While Porsche launched the Cayenne in 2022, Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX SUVs were introduced in 2017 and 2020 respectively. Ferrari registered an annual revenue rise of 10% in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2021.
