It is no secret that Jeep is readying an all-new 7-seater SUV, which will be based on the Compass SUV. Similar to the Grand Commander, the upcoming Jeep 7-seater SUV could be called the Grand Compass. In fact, testing of the SUV has already been started on foreign soil. The SUV has been spotted multiple times during its test rounds in Brazil.
A new media report claims that the upcoming Jeep Grand Compass could be offered in a single diesel engine option. The SUV will be powered by the tried & tested 2.0-litre MJD turbocharged diesel engine, which also powers the Compass. This engine is capable of producing 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. Previous media reports claim that Jeep engineers could use the twin-turbocharged or more powerful version of the 2.0L diesel engine. It is expected that the Grand Compass diesel version could deliver around 200bhp and close to 450Nm of torque.
For transmission duties, the SUV will receive a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic unit. Both rear wheel and all-wheel drive versions will be on offer. Going by the spy images, it is visible that the rear suspension of the 7-seater Grand Compass is the same as the Renegade. The front suspension unit is sourced from the Compass.
The upcoming Jeep Grand Compass will be designed and developed on the same Small Wide 4×4 platform that underpins the Renegade, Fiat Toro and the Jeep Compass. The company will make changes to the platform to accommodate the bigger 7-seater SUV. The SUV will ride on a longer wheelbase and will have extended length and rear overhang. Previous media reports claim that the Grand Compass could ride on 100mm longer wheelbase, which should create more space inside the cabin.
The 7-seater Jeep SUV is scheduled to be unveiled in the first half of 2021. The SUV will be launched in our market by mid-2021. It will directly rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and others in its category.
