New Mahindra XUV500 Engine Specifications and Details Out

The upcoming new Mahindra XUV500 will come with 2 new engines – a 190bhp, 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 180bhp, 2.2L turbo-diesel.

The homegrown UV maker, Mahindra has announced to launch the new generations of the Thar, Scorpio and the XUV500 in the next 12 months. The next-gen Mahindra Thar will be launched in October 2020, while the new XUV500 and the new Scorpio are planned in the Q1 and Q2 of 2021 respectively.

The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will be based on the newly developed monocoque platform, which will also underpin the Ford C-SUV. The new model will be launched in the first quarter of 2021, before March. It will receive all-new exterior design and completely revised interior along with new set of turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options.

The new Mahindra XUV500 will be powered by an all-new BS6 compliant 2.0-litre mStallion, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This direct injection unit churns out a maximum power output of 190bhp and a peak torque of 380Nm. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

The diesel version of the next XUV500 will receive the upgraded 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which in current form produces 155bhp and 360Nm of torque. However, this engine will be tuned for higher power and torque for the next-gen XUV500. If reports are to be believed, the 2.2L turbo unit could offer power output of around 180bhp. This will make it more powerful than the Tata Harrier, MG Hector and the Tata Gravitas. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Design of the upcoming new Mahindra XUV500 will be inspired by the Funster concept. It will have new Mahindra family grille, new LED projector headlamps, vertically placed DRLs, flush fitting door handles, LED tail-lamps, roof integrated spoiler and dual-tone bumper.

The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in the second quarter of 2021. It will be based on the modified version of the ZEN3 platform, which will soon be debuted in the new Thar. The new model will grow in size and will offer front-facing third row of seats. It will also receive the new 2.0L turbo petrol engine, but in de-tuned form.
