Jeep 7-Seater SUV (Fortuner Rival) To Look Closer To Grand Cherokee

It is no secret that Jeep is readying an all-new 7-seater SUV, codenamed Low-D SUV. This model is rumoured to be a stretched version of the Compass SUV, and is likely to be called the Grand Compass. However, Jeep officials claim that the new model is not a stretched Compass. Brazilian media reports that Ricardo Dilser, Communication Manager at FCA Latin America hints that the spotted model features elements and plates from other models and it is completely different product.

The new Jeep 7-seater SUV has been designed and developed for developing nations including Brazil and India. The executive also claims that the new Jeep will be the most technologically advanced SUV designed and produced in Latin America.

The Jeep’s new 7-seater SUV will feature the new line of GSE turbo engines, which FCA group will produce later this year. The new SUV is expected to get the 1.3-litre Turbo Flex engine with power output close to 180bhp. In Europe, the same engine is paired to a dual-clutch transmission. However, the Brazilian spec model will have CVT-type gearbox unit.

There will be a diesel version as well, which is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre MultiJet II engine. This engine also powers the Compass. It is capable of producing 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. The 7-seater SUV is likely to receive a twin-turbocharged version of this engine, which could offer close to 200bhp and over 400Nm of torque. It will be paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The new Jeep 7-seater SUV will be based on the Small Wide 4×4 platform, which also underpins the Renegade, Compass, Toro and 500X. The new SUV will look different and have more sophisticated interior than the smaller Compass. In fact, the new SUV will share styling cues from the Grand Cherokee. The new SUV will be launched in the Brazilian market in the second half of 2021. In India, Jeep will also launch this SUV around the same time. The company will first launch the Compass facelift, which has already been spotted several times in India as well as on foreign soil.
