2022 festive season brought cheers to car manufacturers in India as the automotive industry registered YoY sales growth by over 29%. A total of 3,36,298 units were sold in October 2022 against 2,60,162 units during the same duration last year. Maruti Suzuki retained the top spot with market share of 41.73%, followed by Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra with market share of 14.27%, 13.45% and 9.60% respectively.

With total sales of 21,260 units, the Maruti Alto was the top selling car in the month of October. The hatchback recorded a 22 percent growth over October 2021, when it sold 17,389 units. Recently, the company introduced the new-generation Alto K10 within the price range of Rs 3.99 lakh – Rs 5.33 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The Maruti WagonR and Swift hatchbacks continued garnering good numbers for the carmaker with 17,945 and 17,231 takers respectively. While the former recorded YoY sales growth of 45 percent, the latter witnessed 88 percent growth.
Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno stood at number four with total sales of 17,149 units against 15,573 units in October 2021. Just so you know, the Baleno received a mid-life update earlier this year. The hatchback comes with significantly updated styling and a set of new features. Tata Nexon continued to be the top-selling SUV from Tata Motors with 13,767 units sales. The subcompact SUV regained the top spot and became the best-selling SUV in the country.
The sixth and seventh spots were grabbed by Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Hyundai Creta with sales of 12,321 units and 11,880 units respectively. Tata Punch has been generating volume for the automaker since its launch in October 2021. Last month, the company managed to sell 10,982 units of the mini SUV. Maruti Suzuki sold 10,494 Ertiga and 9,941 units of the Brezza SUV.
