Indian automotive industry continued to register growth in the month of February 2023. A total of 3,17,905 units were sold last month against 2,84,223 units in February 2022, accounting a growth of 22 percent. The top car manufacturers – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Kia and Toyota recorded YoY growth of 10.1%, 6.6%, 7.2%, 9.8%, 35.8% and 74.6% respectively. Maruti Suzuki Brezza claimed the top spot with total sales of 15,787 units as opposed to 9,256 units in the corresponding month previous year. It recorded a sales growth of 71 percent. The second and third positions were grabbed with Tata’s Nexon subcompact and Punch micro SUV respectively. The carmaker managed to sell 13,914 units of the Nexon against 12,259 units in February 2022. The Tata Nexon is ready to receive a major update sometime next year. The model is currently in its testing phase and it’s likely to come with a new 1.2L turbo petrol engine.

A total of 11,169 units of the Tata Punch were sold last month. The micro SUV model lineup comes in Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative trims, powered by a 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The motor pushes out a peak power of 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox.
Hyundai Motor India retailed 10,421 units in February 2023 against 9,606 units in the same month last year. While the Creta recorded 8 percent YoY growth, the Hyundai Venue that stood at number fifth witnessed a YoY decline 2 percent. The Hyundai Creta will get a mid-life update in early 2024. The SUV will come with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) along with a 115bhp, 1.5L petrol engine.
