The subcompact SUV segment maintained its sales momentum in the month of March 2021. The new entrants such as Renault Kiger and Nissan Mangite have generated volume for their respective carmakers. Here’s a brief on India’s 5 top-selling sub-4 meter SUVs.
Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza led the chart with a sales volume of 11,274 units against 5,513 unit of the same month last year. The compact SUV registered sales growth of 104%. At present, the model comes with 1.5L K15B petrol engine boosted with SHVS mild hybrid system. The Vitara Brezza is ready to enter into its second generation during this year’s festive season. If reports are to be believed, the new model will come with stronger hybrid system, a new 6-speed automatic gearbox and a sunroof.
The second top-selling subcompact SUV was the Hyundai Venue that recorded total sales of 10,722 units as opposed to 6,127 units, accounting 75% growth. The model lineup comes with three engine options – 1.5L diesel, 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.2L petrol. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual (1.2L petrol only), a 6-speed manual (1.5L diesel/1.0L turbo petrol), a 7-speed DCT (turbo petrol only) and an iMT (turbo petrol only).
Tata Nexon stood at the number third with total sales of 8,683 units against 2,646 units of March 2020. It registered growth of 228%. The model received a facelift earlier last year. Currently, it comes with the 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engine options.
With total sales of 8,498, the Kia Sonet became the fourth top-selling subcompact SUV in the country. Similar to the Venue, the Sonet comes with the 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. The Ford EcoSport grabbed the fifth spot with sales of 5,487 units as opposed to 2,197 units of the same month previous year. The compact SUV recorded year-on-year growth of 150%.
