India’s Top-Selling SUVs and Small Cars – Maruti, Hyundai, Tata

India’s passenger vehicle industry had a profitable start of the year. According to FADA passenger vehicle retail sales data, the YoY (year-on-year) sales improved by 22 percent to over 3.40 lakh units in January 2023 from 2.79 lakh units in the same month previous year. India’s top three car manufacturers – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata – registered total PV sales of 1.50 lakh, 45,799 units and 45,061 units  respectively. While Maruti Suzuki holds 44.10% market share, Hyundai and Tata have market share of 13.46% and 13.24% respectively. Tata Nexon Waiting Period

Tata’s Nexon subcompact SUV retained the top spot with total sales of 15,567 units against 13,816 units in January 2022. It recorded YoY growth of 12.67 percent. The Hyundai Creta was the second top-selling SUV with total sales of 15,037 units as opposed to 9,869 units during the corresponding month last year. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza stood at number 3 with sales of 14,359 units against 9,576 units.

In January 2023, the Maruti Alto ruled the sales chart with total sales of 21,411 units that’s up 73.48% from 12,342 units retailed in the same month previous year. Currently, the Alto 800 is available within the price range of Rs 3.54 lakh – Rs 5.13 lakh and prices of the Alto K10 start from Rs 3.99 lakh and go up to Rs 5.95 lakh. The Maruti WagonR and Swift hatchbacks grabbed the second and third positions with sales of 20,466 units and 16,440 units respectively. While the WagonR registered a marginal YoY growth of 0.65%, the Swift witnessed a decline of 13.96%.
