Hyundai Exter Front, Side & Rear Revealed In Leaked Images

Aimed at Tata Punch, the upcoming Hyundai Exter features the new Verna-like front design & Venue-like boxy profile.

Hyundai has recently released the official sketch of the soon-to-be-launched sub-compact SUV, the Exter. Ahead of the official debut, the Hyundai Exter clearest images with zero camouflage have been leaked on the Internet. The leaked images reveal the front, side and rear design of the small SUV.

The Hyundai’s Punch rival is based on the K1 platform that underpins the Grand i10 Nios and the Xcent compact sedan. The same platform also underpins the Korean-spec Casper micro SUV, which measures just 3.4 meters in length. However, the Exter appears significantly bigger in dimensions compared to the Korean sibling.

The overall styling of the SUV seems inspired from the Venue SUV. The small SUV features the brand’s new design language ”Sensuous Sportiness”, which we have already seen on the latest Verna sedan. It features the brand’s new signature grille, H-shaped LED DRLs on the edges of the bonnet that are connected via a thin glossy black bar. The main headlamp unit is placed on the lower bumper that appears as a part of the brand’s parametric jewel-type front grille. The headlamps are placed in the glossy black housing with chrome surrounds.

The small SUV has black plastic cladding all-around the body. It has squarish wheel arches and Y-shaped spokes on the wheels. Also visible are the body-coloured ORVMs with turn indicators, black finished roof rails. The Hyundai logo is placed on the bonnet, right above the glossy black bar.

The rear profile seems simple with H-shaped tail-lights connected via a thick glossy black bar that also houses the Hyundai’s logo. It has a fixed roof spoiler with an integrated brake light, and a shark fin antenna.

The spy images reveal that the small SUV will have fixed-type headrests for the second-row passengers. The cabin is likely to be shared with the Grand i10 Nios. It is expected to receive an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, a semi-digital instrument console, automatic AC, height adjustable driver’s seat and others.

Engine & Launch Details

The new SUV is most likely to be powered by a 1.2L 4-cylinder NA petrol engine that produces 83bhp of power and a peak torque of 114Nm. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. It is also likely to receive a factory-fitted CNG option. If reports are to be believed, the small SUV could also receive Hyundai’s 1.0L T-GDi turbo petrol engine in a lower state of tune.

Estimated to be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, the new Hyundai Exter will be positioned against the Tata Punch micro SUV. It could also impact the sales of the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. It is expected to be unveiled sometime in May or June 2023, while official launch could take place in mid-2023.
