Hyundai Creta & i20 Get 3 Star Crash Test Rating – Global NCAP

The popular Hyundai Creta SUV and i20 hatchback have recently been crash tested by Global NCAP. Both models have secured a 3 star crash test rating. For test, the GNCAP used the entry-level variants of the Creta and the i20. These models are equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seatbelt warning and rear parking sensors as standard.

In the frontal offset crash test at 65kmph, the Hyundai Creta SUV scored a 3 star rating for adult protection. The body shell of the SUV was found unstable and not capable of withstanding further loadings. Adding to it, th car’s footrest was also found unstable.

The SUV secured 8 points out of a total of 17. The head protection for driver and co-passenger are rated adequate and good respectively. Global NCAP’s report stated that the SUV offers good protection to driver and co-driver’s neck. The chest protection was marginal for the driver and good for the co-occupant. The report further marks that the SUV offers marginal knee protection during collision, as driver & front passenger’s could come in contact with ‘dangerous structures’ behind the dashboard.

The Hyundai Creta also gets 3-star rating for child occupant protection. It scores 28.29 points out of a maximum 49. The base variant misses out on ISOFIX child seat anchorages. The report marks that the seat belt failed ro prevent excessive forward movement of te head for the 3-year old front-facing dummy. In fact, the chest protection was rated as ‘weak’. However, the 1.5 year old rearward-facing dummy had good protection to the head and chest.

The Hyundai i20 scored 8.84 points out of a total 17 points; securing 3 star rating in GNCAP crash test. The bodyshell and footwell area were found unstable and not capable of withstanding further loads. The i20 offers weak protection to the driver’s chest and marginal protection to driver and co-occupant’s knees.

The i20 offers adequate protection to head and neck of front passenger and driver. The hatchback scored 36.89 points out of 49 in the child occupancy test. It gets ISOFIX anchorages as standard and the child restraint system was also well placed and marked. In the test, the ISOFIX anchorages prevented excessive forward movement. The report also marks that the hatchback offers poor protection to the child’s neck region.
