Hyundai Ai3 Subcompact SUV Launch In 2023; Tata Punch Rival

We reported earlier that Hyundai is planning to launch 5 new models including the Creta facelift and the Venue facelift in 2022. Adding to it, the company will launch the Kona EV facelift, new Tucson and the Ioniq 5 pure EV before the end of this financial year.

Hyundai has already announced to launch 6 new electric vehicles before the end of 2028. The company is unable to clear the existing bookings, as it is facing a shortage of semiconductor chips. In fact, Tata Motors overtakes Hyundai in December sales 2021.

Hyundai Casper Revealed side

A new media report claims that Hyundai is planning to enter the entry-level sub-4 meter subcompact SUV segment. The company is preparing a new subcompact SUV to rival the likes of the Tata Punch and the Maruti Ignis. The report claims that Hyundai has internally approved funding for the new model. Codenamed Hyundai Ai3, the new CUV (Compact Utility Vehicle) is expected to be launched in 2023.

Hyundai has recently introduced a new micro SUV, called the Casper in South Korea. Based on the new Santro platform, the new micro SUV is the smallest model in Hyundai’s portfolio. It is expected that the heavily localised and modified version of the Hyundai Casper could be launched in our market. However, details about the new models are still under wraps.

Hyundai Casper Interior

The Hyundai Casper micro SUV is designed for the South Korean market and is compliant with the country’s light car regulations. Dimensionally, the new Hyundai Casper is 3,595mm in length, 1,595mm in width and 1,575mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.4 meters. It is smallest Hyundai, as it is shorter and narrower than the Santro.

The Korean-spec Casper is offered with two engine options – a 76bhp, 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a new 100bhp, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol. Both engines will be paired to a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
