Honda had introduced the new generation Civic sedan earlier this year. While the previous generation model had aggressive design, the new-gen model has a more conservative design. Japanese automaker has now introduced a new sedan that is bolder and finished in vibrant colours for the Chinese market.
It is basically the Chinese-version of the Civic sedan, which is called the Honda Integra. The Integra nameplate is associated with the ACURA (Honda’s luxury sub-brand). In fact, the company confirmed that the Integra nameplate will return as a global model. Interestingly, Honda has used the Integra nameplate for the new sedan for the Chinese market.
The new Honda Integra is developed by Guangqi Honda, which is the brand’s joint venture in China. This sedan will be produced in Guangzhou, while the Civic is produced by Dongfeng Honda in Wuhan. Both sedans look largely identical; however, the Honda Integra gets styling updates like slimmer LED headlights and a larger front grille.
Similarly, the rear profile has slimmer LED lights. The sedan has dual exhaust vent and light spoiler on the trunk lid, which gives it a sportier feel. It rides on newly developed 18-inch wheels. The Honda Integra 2022 also gets vibrant colors including Emerald Blue and Fiery Yellow.
The company hasn’t released any interior photos of the Integra. It is expected to share the cabin with the Civic sedan; however, it is likely to have new interior scheme and colour options. The sedan has a badge “240 Turbo” at the rear, which indicates it will have 240Nm of torque. This could be the same 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Civic. It will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Honda will launch the Integra sedan in the Chinese market before the end of this year. It will be a China-specific model, and is not likely to go global. ACURA is also preparing the Integra with a liftback look for the global markets, which is likely to arrive in 2022.
Honda has already discontinued the Civic and the CR-V nameplates from India. The company has no immediate plans to bring back these models in our market. However, Honda is working on a new mid-sized SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and the MG Astor.
