Honda two-wheeler India will reveal its plan for electric two-wheelers on March 29, 2023. The company has announced to release key details on its first electric scooter, which is scheduled to be launched by March 2024.
The new electric scooter is likely to use the Activa nameplate, which will help Honda to reach out to the masses. Adding to it, Honda won’t have to spend extra on marketing of an electric scooter. The Japanese two-wheeler maker will globally introduce two electric scooters by 2025. The Activa e-scooter will be one of them.
The new electric scooter for India has been developed in collaboration with Honda Japan. In fact, Atushi Ogata, MD & CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) confirmed that the first electric vehicle would be ready by the end of the next financial year.
The new Honda Activa electric scooter is likely to get a fixed battery pack placed under the floorboard, and a hub motor at the rear wheel. Honda is also working on removable batteries along with a battery swapping network; however, this setup is likely to be introduced in the future vehicles and not in the Activa e-scooter. It is expected that the Honda Activa electric scooter is likely to share the styling cues from the ICE version. The company will make some design changes to give it an EV look.
