Japanese automaker, Honda had showcased the prototype of the next-gen Civic sedan, which is scheduled to be introduced in the second half of 2021. The Honda Civic 2022 has already been leaked on the Internet, revealing design changes on offer. In this article, we bring you a list of top 5 things you should know about the next-gen Honda Civic 2022 –

Design Changes

The new generation Honda Civic 2022 looks largely similar to the prototype, which was officially showcased last year. The sedan continues to offer wide and low stance that has been signature styling for the Civic. It comes with a more mature and cleaner design, and has lesser body creases. Upfront is a wide, horizontally placed LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, and a body-coloured grille. The front design is inspired by the new generation HR-V, which has recently been unveiled in Europe and Japan.

The sedan gets new front bumper with a larger fog lamp housing finished in black. There is a strong shoulder line that runs across the length and merges into the wraparound tail-lamps. The sedan also shares some of the design highlights from the larger Accord sedan. The rear has simple LED tail-lamps, new bumper and new tailgate.

Interior Changes

Honda had revealed the interior renderings of the sedan, which shows simple dashboard with minimal buttons. The sedan is claimed to offer great ergonomics and visibility. Honda claims that instrument console is free of visual clutter, minimizing cut lines and breaks to offer driver a clear view of the road ahead. The dashboard has a honeycomb mesh accent. The new model is claimed to offer multiple new Civic-first technologies, including an all-digital driver’s meter cluster and a new 9-inch full-HD free-standing touchscreen infotainment system.

The sedan will also come with a panoramic sunroof, which is also visible in the leaked images. It will come with several new active and passive safety features, which includes an upgraded suite of Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technologies, and multiple new airbag designs.

Could Debut New Platform

Japanese media reports claim that the new generation Honda Civic 2022 sedan could debut the brand’s new Global platform. This platform was earlier speculated to be offered with the new HR-V, that didn’t happen. The new platform will be stronger, safer and stiffer than the current architecture.

Type R & Hatchback Confirmed

Honda is also testing the hatchback version of the new Civic sedan, which will also receive significant design changes. This model will be powered by a  1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 174bhp and a peak torque of 220Nm. The new Civic will also get the new Si and Type R variants, which are expected to be powered by a 306bhp, 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine.  Japanese media reports that the new Civic hatchback will make global debut in Japan in November 2021.

India Launch?

Honda has closed its Greater Noida plant, which was used to locally assemble the Civic and the CR-V. The company discontinued its premium offerings; however, the next-gen model could arrive as a flagship product.
