Honda India is ready to launch the hybrid version of its highly popular City sedan in the country. While its official launch date is yet to be announced, the model is reported to hit roads in coming months. According to a fresh media report, the new Honda City Hybrid will be equipped with the Honda Sensing Suite that includes several driver assistance and collision avoidance technologies.
Safety Features
The suite offers road departure mitigation system (RDM), collision mitigation braking system (CMBS), adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane keeping assist system, traffic sign recognition, Honda LaneWatch, blind spot information system, cross traffic monitor and auto high-beam headlamps. Besides it, the City Hybrid will come with lane watch camera, six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, electronic stability control, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, traction control and anti-lock braking system (ABS).
Powertrain Details
For power, the new Honda City Hybrid will use the 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated Atkinson Cycle petrol engine and Honda’s i-MMD hybrid technology. The latter one has two electric motors – one of them works as an ISG (integrated starter-generator) and the other one delivers power (109bhp) and torque (253Nm) to the front wheels through a customised gearbox. The sedan can be driven on electric motors, petrol engine only and a combination of both. Read – Honda ZR-V Mid-Sized SUV To Be Based On the “RS SUV Concept”
High On Mileage
Reports suggest that the Honda City Hybrid will return a mileage of 27.7kmpl. If it happens, the sedan will become the most fuel efficient car in the country. Just so you know, its Thai-spec and Malaysia-spec versions deliver fuel economy of 27.8kmpl and 27.7kmpl respectively. Honda says that the hybrid sedan will be 110kg heavier and 0.5 seconds faster than the regular City. Though, its boot space will be slightly less than its petrol counterpart.
Expected Price
Here, the Honda City Hybrid will come as an import unit and then assembled at the company’s local production facility. Compared to the City petrol, its hybrid version is likely to cost premium over Rs 2 lakh – Rs 2.5 lakh.
