Honda ZR-V Mid-Sized SUV To Be Based On the “RS SUV Concept”

Japanese automaker, Honda had showcased the new RS SUV Concept at the 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. If media reports are to be believed, the production version of the SUV will be called the Honda ZR-V in the home market. In fact, Honda Japan has already trademarked the “ZR-V” nameplate.

The RS SUV Concept is a 5-seater model and the production version is likely to debut in the near future. Indonesia is most likely to be the first market to witness its launch. If rumours are to be believed, the SUV could also be launched in Japan as the Honda ZR-V. However, there is no official word on its India Launch.

Honda is also preparing a new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. It is expected that the SUV could use the new BR-V platform, which is also used to develop the RS SUV Concept. In India, the new Honda SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun.

The RS SUV Concept looks significantly different from the BR-V, as it gets different body shape and side window lines. It measures around 4.2 meters, which is significantly shorter than the 7-seater sibling. Adding to it, the rear window has a strong slope that offers a crossover-profile. The concept had all-new grille, angular wraparound headlamps, a faux skid plate, and new bumper with wider airdam and fog lamps with vertical slats.

The vehicle has prominent black plastic cladding all-around the body. It gets contrasting roof, grey roof rails, Blacked-out A & B pillars, angular tailgate, slim LED tail-lights connected via a faux light strip and re-designed rear bumper.

It is expected that the production version of the SUV will share the engine options with the global-spec City sedan. The Honda ZR-V is expected to be offered with the 1.5L petrol and 1.5L petrol with Honda’s e:HEV mild hybrid technology.
