Hero, Honda, Bajaj Midsize Bikes Planned; To Challenge Royal Enfield

Royal Enfield’s dominance is clearly evident when we look at the sales figures especially in the mid-weight motorcycle segment. In fact, the two-wheeler maker retailed a half of the 2 million midsize bikes on annual basis across the world. The company owned a 10 percent market share of the segment overseas, while it owned 90 percent in India. With an aim to further expand its market, Royal Enfield will bring in four new models in this fiscal year. The range will include the RE Himalayan 450 Roadster and RE Shotgun 650 along with two more models.

In order to challenge dominance of Royal Enfield, Hero MotoCorp, Honda 2Wheelers and Bajaj Auto will introduce around a dozen of midsize bikes over the next few months. If reports are to be believed, Hero MotoCorp will introduce a new middleweight motorcycle by the end of this year. The model will be co-developed with Harley-Davidson. While Hero will take care of its development and testing procedure, Harley-Davidson will design the bike at its Milwaukee center.

Bajaj Auto has planned the new-generation KTM 390 Duke launch for the end of 2023 or early 2024. The bike’s design will be improved with the new angular LED headlight, fuel tank with sharp tank shrouds, exhaust system and taillight. It will have a new trellis frame and aluminium subframe. The new KTM 390 Duke is likely to come with the upgraded TFT display along with the tweaked brakes. Powering the bike could be a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine making 43.5PS and 37Nm.

The Harley-Davidson X 440, which is manufactured in India by Hero MotoCorp in India, is also in the pipeline. It will be the most affordable Harley-Davidson in India, powered by a 440cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine. It’s likely to offer a maximum power of 30bhp and 40Nm of torque.
