Buoyed with the success of the Ranger pickup truck in Europe, the American carmaker has introduced its special edition with cosmetic enhancements, wider tracks and a taller ride height. Called the Ford Ranger Raptor Special Edition will come in three exterior colour options – Frozen White, Conquer Grey and Performance Blue. The twin matte black racing strips with red contrast lines will be available with each shade. The red strips run on the front bonnet, lower body sides, roof, tailgate and rear wings.
While the front two hooks have been painted in red, the grille up front, front and rear bumpers, flared wheel arches and door handles have a matte black finish. The special edition of the Ranger Raptor comes fitted with General Grabber AT3 All-Terrain tyres, which are bigger than the standard model.
The sporty red touches and high-grain leather seat upholstery give a premium feel and appeal to its interior. There is red stitching on the instrument cluster, steering wheel and door panels. The standard instrument cluster has been replaced with a ‘Special Edition-only Raceway Grey’ unit.
Sitting on the Ford Performance chassis, the Ford Ranger Raptor Special Edition comes fitted with a 5.9-inch wider track and 2-inches higher rides than the Ranger XLT. Its suspension setup includes aluminum double wishbones at the front and a multi-link system at the rear. It also gets FOX shock absorbers with Position Sensitive Damping. The aforementioned features enhance its off-road capabilities.
No changes have been made under the hood. The Ford Ranger Raptor Special Edition uses the same 2.0L, 4-cylinder twin turbocharged Ecoblue diesel engine paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The same transmission does duty in the Ford Mustang. The oil burner has been tuned for generating power worth 213bhp and 500Nm of torque. The special edition of the Ranger Raptor comes equipped with a Terrain Management System.
