Citroen C3X To Challenge Verna, City, Slavia In India

Citroen made its entry into the Indian market in April 2021 with the launch of the C5 Aircross premium SUV. Following this flagship model, the brand introduced the C3 hatchback and its electric variant, the eC3. In the second half of 2023, Citroen plans to launch the Citroen C3 Aircross midsize SUV to compete with the dominant Hyundai Creta. The automaker expects India to become its largest market outside of Europe, aiming to achieve 30% of its total sales from global markets outside the continent by 2025. Additionally, Citroen plans to expand its dealership network across the country.

Citroen has also confirmed the launch of a new product in 2024 under its C-Cubed program. While specific details and name of the model have not been disclosed yet, it is speculated to be the Citroen C3X crossover sedan. Recently, a heavily camouflaged test mule of the sedan was spotted in Bengaluru. Positioned against competitors like the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Slavia, and Volkswagen Virtus, the new Citroen sedan is expected to have an estimated price of around Rs 10 lakh.

The Citroen C3X sedan is likely to be equipped with the 1.2L turbo petrol engine found in the C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross midsize SUV. This engine delivers a claimed power output of 110PS and 190Nm of torque. Citroen might tune the engine to offer improved performance for the sedan, and both manual and automatic gearbox options could be available.

Similar to the C3, the new Citroen sedan will be based on the CMP modular platform. A latest spy video showcases the sedan’s side profile, featuring a coupe-like roofline and a black rear panel. The design and styling of the model could be inspired by the global-spec C4X, with certain design elements borrowed from the C3 hatchback, including the headlamp design.
