Citroen C3 Gets Automatic Gearbox & More Features In Brazil

French automaker, Citroen had launched the locally developed C3 compact hatchback in the Indian market on July 20, 2022. Available in 2 trims – Live & Feel – the hatchback is priced between Rs 5.71 lakh and Rs 8.05 lakh. The new Citroen C3 has now been launched in the Brazilian market. It looks largely identical to the model on sale in our market; however, the Brazilian-spec model comes with host of mechanical changes and upgraded interior. 

The Brazil-spec Citroen C3 is offered with a option of a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. On the flip-side, the India-spec model is only offered with manual transmission. It is expected that the Citroen C3 for India will also receive the 6-speed automatic gearbox before the end of this year.

Citroen C3 Brazil Interior

The Citroen C3 for the Brazilian market is offered with different petrol engines. The hatchback gets a 120PS, 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Adding to it, the C3 gets a 71PS, 1.0-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the India-spec model is offered with two petrol engine options – a 82PS, 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 110PS, 1.2-litre turbo petrol.

The Brazilian-spec Citroen C3 hatchback comes with features like electrically adjustable wing mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear parking camera, rear wiper & defroster, etc. These features are not available with the India-spec model. Both hatchbacks also misses out on an automatic air-conditioning. It also gets height adjustable headrests for all five seats & a three-point seatbelt for rear seats. The hatchback gets a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and a digital instrument console.

The new Citroen C3 is based on the heavily localised CMP (Common Modular Platform), which will underpin a new mid-sized SUV and an entry-level electric car. In terms of styling, the C3 has SUV-like design elements such as skid plates, black plastic cladding, roof rails and others. It comes with a double DRLs, a signature chrome grille with chrome treatment, dual-tone paint scheme, split LED headlamp cluster, pronounced wheel arches and black cladding.

The French automaker is also preparing an all-electric car based on the C3 hatchback. It is expected to be revealed by December 2022, while launch could take place in early 2023. The C3’s CMP platform is compatible with electric powertrain. In fact, the CMP platform currently underpins the Peugeot e-208 that features a 50kWh battery pack in Europe. It is claimed to offer a range of up to 362km. The same battery pack is also expected to be offered with the C3 electric.
