All-new Toyota Avanza MPV Officially Revealed; New Platform, 7-Seater

Japanese automaker, Toyota has officially revealed the third-generation Avanza MPV in the Indonesian market. The company has also introduced the sportier version of this MPV, which is named the Toyota Veloz. The all-new Toyota Avanza replaces the second generation model, which is on sale for more than a decade.

The all-new Toyota Avanza comes with significant changes to design, interior and mechanics. It rides on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) that also underpins the Toyota Raize, Daihatsu Rocky and the Perodua Ativa. The previous model was based on a ladder frame chassis. With monocoque construction, the new Avanza gets MacPherson struts at the front and torsion beam at the rear.

It has now become a front-wheel-drive model, as the all previous generations were rear-wheel-drive models. The all-new Toyota Avanza is powered by a 1NR-VE 1.3-litre naturally-aspirated DOHC 4-cylinder petrol engine with dual VVT-i. Paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, this engine produces a maximum power output 98PS at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 121Nm at 4,200rpm.

The new Avanza also gets a 2NR-VE 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns out 106PS at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 137Nm at 4,200rpm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

In terms of proportions, the all-new Toyota Avanza is 4,395mm long, 1,730mm wide and 1,665mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,750mm. It is now 205mm longer and 70mm wider than the previous model, while the height has been reduced by 30mm. However, the wheelbase has been raised by 95mm that should translate into more cabin space.

The all-new Toyota Avanza comes with a completely new styling. It has a new front fascia with a slim, twin-slat grille and sleek LED headlamps, a trapezoidal shaped lower intake and angular fog lamp surrounds, and a prominent chin. There is a sharp crease line that runs across the width and links the front and rear lighting clusters. It gets chunky wheel arches that adds to its sporty profile. The MPV has slim tail-lights that are connected by a raised line that runs through the Toyota logo on the tailgate.

It comes with all-new interior, featuring a more contemporary design and latest features. The dashboard is simple and functional. There is a large touchscreen infotainment unit sits above the AC vents, while the AC unit has digital controls. It also gets a newly designed steering wheel design. The new Avanza comes with a 4.2-inch full TFT MID.

The MPV comes with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) that includes safety features such as pre-collision warning, pre-collision braking, pedal missoperation control, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, and front departure alert. It gets 6 airbags, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), HSA (Hill Start-Assist), ABS with EBD and brake assist.
