It was speculated Tata Motors will introduce the updated Nexon EV with longer range and bigger battery in April 2022. But that is not the case. The company has released a new teaser that confirms that it is an all-new SUV concept, which will make global debut on 6th April 2022.
The new teaser hasn’t reveal much details about the new electric SUV concept. It gives a glimpse of the front, which has LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) running across the width on the bonnet crease through the side and ending into the ORVMs. It gets split headlamp setup with main headlights are placed on the lower bumper. The headlamp unit is encased in a triangle shaped housing.
The teaser also shows the machine cut alloy wheels finished in grey. Tata logo and EV badging are embossed on the rear profile. What’s interesting is that the teaser shows a sloping rear windscreen and the sporty roof-mounted spoiler.
The new teaser suggests that the new model could be the new Tata Coupe SUV, which will be introduced in 2023. This model will be based on the same X1 platform that underpins the Nexon. It will have longer rear doors, tapering roof, and all-new rear end with a larger overhang. The wheelbase is likely to be increased around 50mm. It is expected to measure around 4.3 meters in length.
Previous reports suggest that the new Tata Coupe SUV could get a larger 40kWh battery pack with range over 400kms. The company will also introduce the petrol and diesel versions of the SUV. It is likely to get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine & a 1.5L turbo-diesel engine.
Tata Motors had showcased the Sierra EV concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. The new teaser also shares some design elements with the Sierra. The front headlamp design and LED DRLs shares similarities with the Sierra EV concept.
