Maruti Suzuki has an aggressive product strategy for the upcoming years, with plans to introduce a range of new models while updating its existing product portfolio. Alongside bringing in the new-generation Swift and Dzire, as well as its first electric SUV this year, the company’s future roadmap includes multiple SUVs, MPVs, and EVs. One of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki cars is an electric MPV, which is reported to debut in the second half of 2026, with an expected release by September. Codenamed YMC, this new Maruti electric MPV will share its platform with the eVX electric SUV scheduled for the 2024 Diwali season.
The Maruti YMC will mark the brand’s first electric multi-utility vehicle or family car, featuring a three-row seating configuration. While it’s premature to speculate on its design, specifications, and features, reports suggest that the new Maruti electric MPV will share some design elements and powertrain components with the forthcoming Maruti eVX. The latter is expected to offer two battery pack options – a 40kWh and a 60kWh – coupled with an electric motor, delivering a claimed range of 550km on a single charge. The new Maruti electric MPV may also inherit features from the eVX.
Furthermore, the Indo-Japanese automaker has outlined plans for a compact MPV based on the Japan-spec Spacia. This model, measuring under 4 meters in length, will feature a 7-seater layout. Rumors suggest that the new Maruti mini MPV will utilize the all-new Z-Series 1.2L petrol engine, debuting with the new-generation Swift in the coming months. This motor will be enhanced with Maruti Suzuki’s new hybrid technology, promising greater fuel efficiency. The Maruti Fronx facelift will be the first model to incorporate the brand’s new hybrid tech, followed by other mass-market models including the new-gen Baleno and Swift in the years ahead.
