Mahindra & Mahindra is reportedly planning to unveil the next-gen Mahindra Thar lifestyle SUV on August 15, 2020, that’s Independence Day. The report claims that the new SUV will be unveiled via a live webcast on the Thar’s official website.
The company will not reveal the bookings, test drives and launch/delivery details of the new Thar on the unveiling day. It is expected that the new model will be launched before Diwali, around October-November 2020. The new-gen Mahindra Thar has been spotted testing numerous times. Thanks to the spy images, most of the design and interior details have already been leaked.
The new model will be based on the new GEN3 chassis, which also underpins the Scorpio and the TUV300. Previous reports claim that the trail production of the new model has already been started. While the previous model was designed and developed for off-road enthusiasts, the new Mahindra Thar will offer much more in terms of everyday comforts. The new model will be equipped with modern features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a new instrument console with colour MID, reverse camera and powered ORVMs.
The new Mahindra Thar will come with multiple engine-gearbox combinations. Engine options will include a new 2.0L turbocharged petrol with power close to 187bhp and a 2.2L turbo-diesel producing 140bhp of power. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and an Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive variants will be on offer. The new model will take on the likes of the upcoming Force Gurkha and the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The SUV will also receive a factory-fitted hard-top model, forward-facing second row of seats and others. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat-belt and speed alert will come as standard safety features.
