It is no secret that Mahindra will introduce the next-generation XUV500 and the Scorpio SUVs in the first half of 2021. The entry-level variant of the all-new Mahindra Scorpio has been spotted testing near Coimbatore, which reveals interesting details. The spotted model has a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Codenamed Z101, the all-new Mahindra Scorpio will be based on the heavily modified ladder-frame chassis. This is the same platform that also underpins the new Thar lifestyle SUV. The report suggests that the new Scorpio will receive a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is likely to produce around 158bhp of power. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV will also receive a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is likely to produce around 150bhp and 320Nm of torque.
The report suggests that the new Mahindra Scorpio has a higher stance compared to the next generation XUV500. However, the design of the SUV has been toned-down. The spotted model was equipped with 17-inch steel rims. It features dark brown and black interior scheme with beige upholstery. It also misses out on Mercedes-like instrument console, which will be offered in the upcoming XUV500. The spotted variant has a multicoloured speedometer.
The spotted Mahindra Scorpio had a bench seat in the second row. The vehicle did not have a third row of seats; however, the production model will have third-row of seats. The SUV misses out on sunroof, but it will have provision to install one.
The new Scorpio will retain the overall boxy profile. It features an all-new front grille with the signature five-slot design and all-new headlamps. The top-spec model will have LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, larger front bumper with wider air-intakes, longer hood and a more inclined windscreen.
