Maruti Suzuki’s Hyundai Creta Rival To Launch In Second Half Of 2022

In order to regain the pole position in the utility vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly readying 5 new SUVs, one every six months, for the Indian market. These SUVs will be launched by the end of 2023. Maruti Suzuki’s mid-sized SUV is one of the most awaited products in the market. It will be a direct challenge to segment leaders including Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.

The new SUV will be produced by Suzuki-Toyota joint venture at the Toyota’s facility in Bidadi, Karnataka. The new mid-sized SUV will have a Toyota version as well, which will have completely different design and interior. The mid-sized SUV will measure around 4.3 meters in length. It will be designed and developed on Toyota’s DNGA platform, which is developed for emerging markets. In fact, the Toyota’s Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky are developed on this platform.

The new mid-sized SUV will be introduced in the second half of 2022. A possible debut in the concept form at the 2020 Auto Expo can’t be ignored. It was reported that Maruti Suzuki-Toyota JV is also readying an all-new C-SUV, which will be positioned against the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector. The new mid-sized SUV is expected to be offered in 5 and 7-seat options, and later is likely to be called the Grand Vitara.

The upcoming mid-sized SUV is expected to be powered by Suzuki’s 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza. This engine is capable of producing 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. The company could also introduce a turbocharged petrol engine, which could be an all-new 1.2-litre turbo-unit based on the existing 1.2L naturally-aspirated unit. MSIL could also use Suzuki’s 138bhp, 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine to power the new SUV.

It is reported that Maruti Suzuki is planning to bring back diesel engine in the market in 2021. The Brezza and the Ertiga will receive the BSVI compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine. This engine could also power the upcoming mid-sized SUV.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is also readying an all-new C segment MPV, which will be positioned between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta. Adding to it, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the next-gen Vitara Brezza in 2022. MSIL is also reportedly working on an all-new compact crossover based on the Baleno platform to rival the Tata Nexon and the Kia Sonet.
