We informed you earlier that Fiat is planning to re-introduce the iconic Punto nameplate in select international markets. Thanks to the FCA and Groupe PSA joint venture, called the Stellantis, several cars from the Italian brand – Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia will make their comeback in the new avatars. The Alfa Romeo Brenner in 2022 will be the first to be re-introduced, which will be followed by the next-gen Fiat Punto.
The next-gen Fiat Punto is reportedly to be introduced around 2022. The new model is expected to be based on the Groupe PSA’s CMP (Common Modular Platform), which also underpins the Peugeot 208. The new merger will further help Fiat to fast pace the development around its future products. Adding to it, the new CMP platform will allow Fiat to introduce electric vehicles as this architecture already underpins the e-208, Corsa-e and Citroen e-C4.
Italian media reports that Fiat is also working on an all-new B-segment crossover, which could be introduced by the end of 2023. The new crossover will be based on the new Punto hatchback. Digital artist, Kleber Silva has released couple of renderings of the upcoming Punto based crossover. The new model could lead the development of the Opel Corsa.
The Fiat’s new crossover is likely to be produced at the Serbian plant in Kragujevac. The next-gen Punto is expected to measure slightly over 4 meters in length with a wheelbase of around 2.54 meters. The new Fiat crossover could measure around 4.15 meters to 4.20 meters. It is likely to be powered by the 1.2-litre PureTech engines with powers up to 131bhp. The small SUV could also get an electric variant with 50kWh of batteries and 136bhp of power.
The next-gen Fiat Punto and the Crossover could also receive the Abarth variants. The performance-oriented version could use the 155bhp, 1.2L PureTech. The Abarth version could also receive an electric derivative with larger capacity battery and higher power and torque.
