Jeep had introduced the current generation Renegade SUV in early 2014. The SUV will receive a full model change in 2022. The new model will be joined by an all-new B-segment SUV, which will sit below 4 meters in length and will rival the Toyota Raize, Suzuki Jimny and the Ford EcoSport. The B-segment SUV will be based on the new CMP platform, which will be shared with the Group PSA and the Citroen’s upcoming C21 SUV.
The next-generation Jeep Renegade will retain the existing the Small Wide 4×4 platform, which also underpins the Jeep Compass. However, the platform will be tweaked to offer better performance and off-road capabilities. The updated platform is expected to be lighter and stronger than the current model. This platform will first debut in the upcoming Jeep 7-seater SUV, which media calls the Grand Compass. However, Jeep officials have said that the new SUV will have completely different design and interior.
Previous reports claim that the new-gen Jeep Renegade is also under consideration for the Indian market; however, Jeep is yet to make an official announcement on the same. This model will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Mahindra Scorpio.
The SUV will be produced locally at the FCA’s Ranjangaon facility. This production plant will also serve as a production hub for Right-Hand-Drive markets. The SUV will have high level of localisation, which should help Jeep to price it competitively. However, the Renegade with off-road capabilities will be positioned slightly premium over the competition.
The second generation Jeep Renegade is expected to be offered in 3 engine options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, a 1.6-litre MJD diesel and an all-new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The same engine configuration could also be offered on the India-spec model. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.
