5 Upcoming Diesel Cars In 2024 – From Curvv To New Carnival

Due to stringent emission norms, automakers in the recent past discontinued their diesel powered vehicles from the market. Brands like Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Renault, Nissan and Volkswagen Group have decided to focus on petrol and alternate fuels including CNG and electric. However, few automakers including Tata Motors, Hyundai, Kia and Mahindra have decided to continue with diesel powered vehicles in the country. In this article, we bring you a list of upcoming diesel powered cars & SUVs in the Indian market in 2024 –

Tata Curvv SUV Coupe

Tata Motors will introduce the ICE version of the Curvv SUV Coupe in the country towards the end of this year. At the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show, Tata Motors had showcased the diesel version of the Curvv SUV. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 115PS and 250Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. The SUV Coupe will sit between the Nexon and the Harrier in Tata line-up. It will also come with an electric powertrain with an expected range of up to 500km on a single charge.

The homegrown UV maker, Mahindra will introduce the more practical and feature-loaded 5-door Thar lifestyle SUV in mid-2024. The new 5-door Mahindra Thar will be based on the same ladder-frame chassis that underpins the Scorpio-N. Not just platform, the SUV is likely to share the engine options with the new Scorpio. It will have the 200bhp, 2.0L turbo petrol and a 172bhp, 2.2-litre diesel engine. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The lifestyle off-road SUV is expected to come with either 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain options. The SUV is also likely to receive the Scorpio N’s penta-link suspension for improved stability.

Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

Mahindra will soon introduce the updated XUV300 sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market. The new SUV will receive significant design changes and an all-new feature-loaded interior. It will receive an all-new dashboard layout, featuring a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 10.25-inch digital instrument console. The SUV will retain the exising engine options – a 1.5-litre diesel, a 1.2-lite turbo petrol and a 1.2-litre direct injection turbo petrol (TGDI). The diesel XUV300 will join the likes of the Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and an AMT.

The Korean automaker, Kia has confirmed that the new gen Carnival MPV will be launched in our market in 2024. The company had showcased the fourth-gen Carnival as the KA4 concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The new model grows in size and has a more feature-loaded and premium cabin. It is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system with features like adaptive cruise control, lane assist, emergency braking, etc. It will be powered by a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that is good for 200bhp and 440Nm of torque. The transmission duties will be handled by an 8-speed ‘Sportsmatic’ automatic gearbox.

Hyundai Alcazar Facelift

After launching the updated Creta, Hyundai is now readying the Alcazar facelift for the Indian market. The new model is likely to share the design cues and the interior with the Creta facelift. It will come with a significantly revised dashboard layout, featuring twin screen layout for touchscreen & instrument console. The Alcazar facelift will be offered with the same engine options including the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel and 2.0-litre NA petrol engine. The SUV will also receive a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine.
