4 Upcoming Volkswagen-Skoda Cars With Possible Launch Timeline

Skoda is leading the Volkswagen Group’s India Plan 2.0, which includes local development of cars, platform and engine. Skoda and Volkswagen will introduce 4 new cars in the country before the end of the next financial year. Here is the list of upcoming VW-Skoda Cars with possible launch timeline in the Indian market –

Skoda Vision IN

Expected Launch – April-June 2021
Expected Price – Rs 9 lakh – Rs 15 lakh
Competition – Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos

Skoda Vision In India

Skoda will introduce the Vision IN concept based SUV in the second quarter of 2021. In fact, the production version of the SUV is expected to be showcased in the first quarter of the next year. THe new model will be based on the heavily localised MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the next-gen Skoda Rapid. The new model will be offered with two engine options – a 110bhp, 1.0L turbocharged petrol with 6MT and 6AT, and a 148bhp, 1.5L turbocharged petrol with 7-speed DSG.

Volkswagen Taigun

Expected Launch – July-September 2021
Expected Price – Rs 9 lakh – Rs 15 lakh
Competition – Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos

VW Taigun

VW will introduce the production version of the Taigun mid-sized SUV during festive season, before Diwali next year. The new model will share the platform with the Skoda Vision IN. It will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The new model will share the engine and gearbox options with the Skoda Vision IN based SUV. The Vision IN rides on 2,671mm wheelbase and measures 4,256mm in length and 1,589mm in height. The concept had 19-inch wheels, but the production-spec model will have 17-inch wheels.

Next VW Vento

Expected Launch – October-November 2021
Expected Price – Rs 8.5 lakh – Rs 13 lakh
Competition – Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz

2020 Volkswagen Vento rear

Volkswagen will introduce an all-new mid-sized sedan, which will replace the ageing Vento. The new model will use the heavily localised MQB AO IN platform. It is expected to be inspired by the global VW Virtus sedan. The new model will be positioned against the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine offering 110bhp and 175Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

2020 Skoda Rapid Specs

The second model to be launched by Skoda is an all-new mid-sized sedan, which will come as a replacement for the ageing Rapid. Based on the MQB AO IN platform, the new model will be launched in the last quarter of the next financial year. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which will soon be offered with the existing Rapid, VW Polo and the VW Vento. This engine is capable of producing 110bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
