4 Upcoming Tata Nexon Rivals – MG, Skoda, Jeep, Maruti

Here’s the list of upcoming new sub-4 meter SUVs to be launched in the Indian market in the next couple of years –

1. MG Sub-4 meter SUV

MG Motor is planning to enter into the sub-4 meter SUV category in India. The company is all set to expand the production capacity at its Halol plant in Gujarat. Adding to it, the company is looking at a second production plant for its future products. MG’s future sub-4 meter SUV will be produced at the new production facility.

It is expected that MG could introduce the re-engineer and rebadge Baojun 510 SUV to enter into the sub-4 meter segment. This Baojun 510 measures 4,220mm in length, and was planned to be trimmed to achieve length under 4 meters. The new MG compact SUV is likely to be launched after 2023, followed by the MPV and hatchback. The new compact SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and the Toyota Urban Cruiser. Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger are other sub-4 meter SUVs on sale in India.

2. Skoda Compact SUV

Volkswagen Group is now planning to enter the fast growing and highly-competitive sub-4 meter SUV segment. Set to be sold under the Skoda nameplate, the new model will rival the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and the Tata Nexon. Internally called the project 2.5, the new compact SUV is reportedly to be launched in the second half of 2023.

The company is looking to sell around 50,000 units per annum of the upcoming sub-compact SUV. The new compact SUV would be designed in Europe; however, the Indian R&D will ensure its execution with a deep localisation of over 95% in order to compete aggressively in the market. The new Skoda compact SUV is expected to be based on the modified version of the MQB AO IN platform, which underpins the Kushaq. The new model is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options.

3. Jeep 526 Compact SUV

American SUV maker, Jeep is planning to enter into the sub-4 meter SUV space. The new compact SUV will be based on the Groupe PSA’s CMP (Common Modular Platform), which is developed with over 90 percent locally sourced components. The same architecture underpins the soon-to-be-launched new Citroen C3 hatchback. Under the hood, the new SUV will feature the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine that will deliver power close to 100bhp.

It is reported that the new Jeep compact SUV will be the first vehicle in its segment to offer AWD system. Estimated to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh, the new Jeep compact SUV will rival the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Kia Sonet.

4. Next-gen Maruti Brezza

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the second generation Vitara Brezza, which has already been leaked on the Internet. The new model will come with comprehensive changes inside and out along with new platform. The new model is also likely to receive a stronger 48V hybrid technology instead of the mild hybrid system. It will feature the same 1.5L K15B petrol engine, and with stronger hybrid system it will be more fuel efficient than the current model. Transmission options could include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

It is expected to be renamed as the new Maruti Brezza. It will come with comprehensively re-designed interior with features like a new free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a new semi-digital instrument panel, new centre console and new dashboard. It will also receive connnected car tech. The top-spec model will have a factory-fitted sunroof, a flat-bottom steering wheel, wireless charging, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
