Citroen C3, Maruti YTB Crossover – 2 Upcoming Tata Punch Rivals

Tata Motors has recently launched the new Punch subcompact SUV, which has received an overwhelming response from buyers. In fact, the new Punch entered the list of top 10 selling cars in October 2021. The vehicle also helped Tata Motors to registered its best-ever sales figure of over 30,000 units sold in a month.

The Tata Punch currently has no direct rival; however, it is positioned as an alternative to B-segment hatchbacks. Things could change in 2022, as Citroen and Maruti Suzuki are ready to introduce new subcompact SUV/Crossover in our market.

Citroen C3

Citroen C3 Unveiled

Citroen will launch the new C3 compact car in the country in early 2022. Scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2021, the new model will rival the likes of the Tata Punch and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. It is basically a hatchback with crossover-like styling elements, such as raised ground clearance, roof rails and high-driving position.

Citroen has achieved over 90 percent localisation levels with the new C3. It is based on the localised CMP platform that has been specifically developed for emerging markets. Measuring 3.98 meters in length, the new C3 shares styling with the bigger Citroen’s including the C4 and the C5.

The Citroen C3 has a ground clearance of 180mm, and a boot space of 315-litres along with a segment-largest 1-litre of glove box. The Citroen C3 has a wheelbase of 2.54 meters, as it is claimed to offer segment-largest leg room in the second row in its category. It is claimed to offer a small turning radius of 10 meters. It is likely to be offered with a 1.2L naturally-aspirated or a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Maruti YTB – Baleno Based Crossover

New Maruti Suzuki Cars

Maruti Suzuki is also developing a new crossover, codenamed YTB in the country. Based on the Baleno hatchback, the new model will directly rival the Tata Punch. The new Maruti YTB will be positioned between the S-Presso and the Vitara Brezza.

Exact launch timeline is yet to be revealed; however, a possible debut in 2022 can’t be ignored. It is likely to be designed on the  Heartect platform that’s said to be built with ultra and advanced high tensile steels. It is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that powers the Baleno. This engine could also receive a 12V mild hybrid system.
