4 New Upcoming MPVs In India – Carens To Rumion

Kia Carens

Kia Carens Launch Date

Korean automaker, Kia Motors will launch the Carens 3-row MPV in the country in February-March 2022. The new model will be based on the modified SP2 platform that underpins the Seltos SUV. The Kia Carens will rival the Mahindra Marazzo MPV. The Carens MPV will be offered in 5 trim levels – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. The MPV will come with several segment-leading features like six airbags, all-4 disc brakes and ESP as standard.

The new Carens will be offered with 3 engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, a 113bhp, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel and a 138bhp, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol. This is the same engine line-up that is offered with the Seltos as well as Hyundai Creta. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

Toyota C-Segment MPV

Japanese automaker, Toyota is preparing two brand new models – a mid-sized SUV and an all-new C-segment MPV for the Indian market. While the SUV will launch during festive season 2022, the new MPV will arrive in 2023. Codenamed 560B, the new C-segment MPV will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant.

It is expected to be based on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) that underpins the global Raize and the new-gen Avanza. It will rival the likes of the Kia Carens and the Mahindra Marazzo. The new MPV will come with Toyota’s hybrid technology. Similar to the mid-sized SUV, the new Toyota MPV is also expected to be shared with Maruti Suzuki.

Similar to the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser, Toyota will launch the re-badged Ertiga and the Ciaz in the country. The re-badged Ertiga, called the Toyota Rumion has already been launched in South Africa. The company has filed trademark application for the Toyota Rumion nameplate in India, which suggests that the launch could take place in the near future.

The Rumion looks identical to the Ertiga, except for the few changes like revised grille with a Toyota’s badge and a black interior scheme with wooden trim. It is powered by the same 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine benefited with the SHVS mild hybrid technology. This engine produces 103bhp and 138Nm of torque.

Maruti Ertiga/XL6 Facelift

Maruti XL7 Launch

Maruti Suzuki will launch the updated versions of the Ertiga and the XL6 in the country in 2022. The updated models have already been spotted testing multiple times. The Ertiga will receive minimal changes in the form of slightly revised grille and bumper. The cabin design will remain the same.

The XL6 is likely to receive major design changes. Adding to it, the company is also planning to introduce the 7-seater derivative of the crossover-MPV. It will get a newly designed grille and alloy wheels. The cabin is likely to receive new seat upholstery along with a bunch of new features. It could also receive a new touchscreen infotainment system, which will also be offered on the Baleno facelift. Both models will continue to offer the 1.5L K15B petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech.
