While most of the SUVs cost above Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), automakers are also aiming to target hatchback buyers by introducing affordable SUVs or crossovers in our market. Maruti Baleno Cross

Maruti Suzuki is all set to unveil an all-new SUV Coupe at the 2023 Auto Expo. Codenamed YTB, the new SUV Coupe will be launched in the country by April 2023. The new model will be sold through NEXA premium dealership network. It will be positioned below the Brezza in Maruti’s line-up and is expected to be priced under Rs 10 lakh. However, the higher variants could go up to Rs 12 lakh. The new model will rival the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and the Hyundai Venue/Kia Sonet.

The new Maruti SUV Coupe will be based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform that underpins the new Baleno hatchback. It will share the interior from the Baleno hatchback. The new model will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, which could be benefitted with Suzuki’s mild hybrid tech. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are likely on offer.

Similar to the Grand Vitara & Hyryder, Toyota will also introduce its own version of the upcoming Maruti YTB SUV Coupe in 2023. Rumoured to be called the Toyota Taisor, the new SUV Coupe is likely to share the styling cues from Toyota Yaris Cross on sale overseas. In fact, the Yaris Cross has already been spotted testing a couple of times on the Indian roads. The new model will also share the interior and overall silhouette with the Maruti YTB SUV Coupe. It will be powered by Suzuki’s 1.0L Boosterjet petrol engine with manual & AT gearbox options. The entry-level variants could also get Suzuki’s 1.2L DualJet petrol engine with manual & AMT.

Hyundai Mini SUV

Hyundai is also aiming to enter the micro SUV segment of the country in 2023. Internally codenamed Ai3, the new compact utility vehicle is reportedly to be introduced by mid-2023. It will be based on Hyundai’s K2 platform that underpins the recently discontinued Santro and the Grand i10 Nios. It will share styling cues from the Venue compact SUV. The new micro SUV will rival the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger.

The leaked info reveals that the new model will share the cabin & features with the Grand i10 Nios. It will also come with an electric sunroof. It will get a 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 81bhp and 114Nm of torque. The company could also offer a CNG option. Both manual and AMT gearbox options will be on offer.
